Colin Almack ‘Beaverman’
Colin ‘Beaverman’ Almack (1930-1996) was an ex ‘Mouseman’ craftsman celebrated for his skill in woodworking. Colin was an apprentice and craftsman for Robert Thompson in the 1940s/50s. He went on to establish his own workshop in Thirsk in 1960, adopting a beaver as his signature carving. In the early 1970s he moved to Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe where the business continues to trade from today attracting visitors from near and far, eager to witness the company’s craftsmanship.
Colin’Beaverman’ Almack trained many apprentices over the years to pass on his skills, before his death in 1996. Two of them own and manage the Beaver Furniture business today, his son-in-law David Clegg and Gary Pawlett.
