Circa 1980

An excellent square low lamp table or occasional  side table from ex mouseman craftsman Peter 'Rabbitman' Heap. The flat top has been selected for it's interesting and particularly fine figuring and is supported by four carved legs joined by stretchers with a signature rabbit carved in high relief to one leg. Excellent honey colour with just a slight trace of an old stain to the top which has blended well with the natural graining and colouration of the  top.

1974

A rare, highly unusual  and exceptional condition Peter Heap 'Rabbitman' 3' circular dining or kitchen  table. The oak used for the table top was clearly specially selected by Peter  as it is a rairly found single plank top with natural burrs and knotting which adds considerably to the character and patina of the table. The top sits on a pedestal cruciform base with four feet. His signature rabbit is carved in high relief to the pedestal.

Beautiful rich waxed colour and patina, no damage or repairs just slight natural warpage to the top, typical on aged single plank tops but not detrimental to usage at all. A copy of the original invoice dated  25/10/74 to the purchasers in Filey is included in the sale.

I am selling this piece on behalf of its owner but it is in my posession for viewing.

Circa 1985

It's exceptionally rare to find a coffee table that is in such pristine original condition as this example, made by the ex Mouseman craftsman Peter Heap who had his own  workshop in Wetwang near Drifffield in the 70s and 80s. Given originally in the mid 80's as a retirement present to a recently deceased collector of the Yorkshire craftsmens work, it has clearly been most carefully used and loved  all it's life. It genuinely is in as good a condition as the day it was made nearly 30 years ago, i can't find an unnatural mark or stain on it.  The  3' single plank top is finished smooth, well grained and of rectangular form, standing on typical  refectory style carved baluster legs with a central stretcher. Peter's trademark rabbit is carved in high relief on one of the legs. Waxed and a superb natural honey colour that  will deepen further with age.

Circa 1970s

A lovely oval cheeseboard hand carved from a solid 4cm thick block of oak, nicely grained with some natural burrs on the platter. There are some knife cuts to the board commensurate with normal usage over the years as intended.  The addition of a clear wax has revealed a  deep honey coloured oak. A large well executed rabbit has been carved  sitting prominently between the handle and platter.

Mouseman trained in the 50s / 60s, Peter established his own workshop at Wetwang in 1970, continuing until retirement in 1989.
