Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson, Rare Early Leather Chair

Stock ref: DS1045

Circa mid 30’s to mid 40’s.

Top class original condition, featuring a shaped top rail, over a shaped splat. Square section rear legs and octagonal carved front legs and superb early mouse carving to the front leg, joined by stretchers. In line with very early work the wood is adzed all over, the front rail is positioned between the front legs and the seat is made from a solid single piece of cow hide wrapped over the seat frame. There is a saying at Thompson’s - ‘the cruder it looks, the earlier it was made’.

Presented in superb condition with a wonderfully aged chestnut brown patina, the result of fuming and years of maturation.Solid joints. The leather is also excellent for its age, use of a conditioner twice a year will keep the leather supple.
