Thomas Whittaker ‘Gnomeman’ Burr Oak Desk or Side Table

Circa late 1940s / 50s.

A stunning and uniquely crafted  burr oak topped desk or side table from Thomas Whittaker, the 'Gnomeman' of Littlebeck, Nr Whitby. Adzed all over and of rectangular form standing on two octagonally  and  block carved legs joined by a central stetcher, standing on two large shaped and sloping feet with his signature gnome carved into  the lower section of one of the legs. After a re-wax and polish it presents with a superb rich colour and patina.

From the recently disposed collection of Stanley J Seeger (1930-2011), the wealthy American born collector who lived in the UK  for the last 30 years of his life, latterly quietly in North Yorkshire.
