Mouseman Robert Thompson 1930s Oak Coffee / Occasional Table

Stock ref: DS2773

Circa 1930s

New in  and market fresh from a private family collection,  photographed as purchased and unloaded from our van.

An excellent example of an early soid oak octagonal  Occasional / Coffee Table by Robert 'Mouseman' Thompson of Kilburn, North Yorkshire. Features an adzed single plank top  with an incised crest inscribed in latin  'qoud honestum utile' which translates to 'that which is designed attractively to perform a use'. The top is supported on an adzed cruciform pedestal leg base with crossed feet and a signature mouse to one leading edge and natural burrs in the oak  to some of the legs.

Well used but wonderfully looked after all its life with good colour and patina, originally purchased by the  former owners grandparents who lived close to Kilburn and knew Robert personally. It requires nothing more than a very gentle and sympathetic clean and re-wax to the top and pedestal leg to remove  the expected usage marks. One of  a number of other early and later pieces privately purchased directly from the original owning family.
