Sid Pollard
Sid Pollard (1914-1994) was an ex Mouseman craftsman who lived in Bagby, near Thirsk, and was one of Robert Thompson’s early apprentices and craftsmen, together with his brother.
After leaving Thompson’s he combined his bespoke furniture work with assisting the family building firm, Pollard Builders. His own work dates from the late 1940’s through to his death in 1994 and retains the same levels of hand-built craftsmanship and design style that he was taught at Robert Thompson’s. This high level of skill and competence in furniture making allows his work to be identifiable by knowledgeable specialists.
He was unusual amongst the ex Mouseman ‘Yorkshire Critters’ craftsmen as he didn’t adopt a carved signature. His own work was almost always unmarked, preferring to let his craftsmanship speak for itself.
