An excellent example of the extremely comfortable leather slung backed and cushioned armchair with a solid oak frame which is still referred to as a ‘Smoking Chair’ in the R. Thompson’s price list, although of course today few will use it for its original named purpose. Today they are used primarily for leisure and relaxation in the home.
The frames present in excellent condition in a modern lighter medium fumed golden oak colour. The aniline hide back and seat cushion are clean and nicely patinated and aged. A signature mouse is carved in high relief to the left had facing front leg.
One of a matching pair we bought privately over 10 years ago from the original purchaser and sold, as a pair, to a local Lancaster based client. We’ve recently had the opportunity to buy them both back privately. We’re offering them separately, but will also be pleased to discuss their sale as a pair.
