Thomas Whittaker ‘Gnomeman’ Oak Spinning Stool, 1970s

A lovely example of Thomas Whittaker’s craftsmanship, this traditional oak spinning stool features a shaped and adzed back with an inset carved image of a Tudor / Yorkshire rose. The dodecagon (12 sided) single plank seat is also subtly
adzed and supports three substantial legs, his trademark gnome carved intricately to the rear leg which is pegged through the back splat and screwed to the seat edge. Both splayed front legs feature  visible wedged joints through the seat.

Super condition and colour, part of a lovely collection of ‘Gnomeman’ pieces all privately sourced from the original owning family. The back and leg joints are tight, there’s just the slightest wood splintering on one facet of the seat edge.

Size: 43(w) x 47(d) x 92(h) cm overall including foot splay. Seat dia 36cm. Seat height at 38cm.
