Stock ref: DS2030

Circa late 30s/40

A beautifully coloured and patinated  bespoke made solid English oak Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson Octagonal Coffee / Occasional Table, believed to have been made by their master carver at the time George Weightman, highly unusual as the single plank adzed top is supported on four octagonally carved legs with crossed feet, with a signature mouse to one leg. It presents in beautiful condition after a sympathetic clean and rewax.

The size and design of this table is based on two unique small octagonal tables Robert made himself in 1924 to celebrate the birth of his first grandchild Jean, although these also had burr inlaid tops. The tables were given to his daughter Elsie and grandaughter Jean. In late 2008 Robert Thompson’s offered a limited edition of 99 tables made to Robert’s original 1924 design, made from oak sourced from the local Hovingham Estate, hence they were called the Hovingham Tables. An image of this 2008/9 limited edition table is also enclosed in the image gallery below.
