An rare and impressive large early 4’6″ (w) x 6’1″(h) burr oak panelled Double Wardrobe from the Robert ‘Mouseman’ Thompson of Kilburn workshops. Adzed all over, in line with early craftsmanship, externally it features a penny moulded top frieze, twin panelled doors, panelled sides and traditional wrought iron door fittings which feature a very early square screw head design.(A small slotted and certain sized pozi/phillips will also fit allowing removal of the screws.) The interior is in excellent clean condition and features a full length oak hanging rail and rare three drawer storage fitted to both sides.

Medium fumed from new it presents in excellent condition with a wonderful rich aged colour, heightened by a fresh coat of wax.

Excellent provenance, privately acquired directly from the  surviving family of the former timber merchants and oak supplier in the pre and post war period to Robert Thompson, together with a professional house contents insurance valuation dated 1943, confirming the early age of this and other bedroom furniture pieces we have purchased  from this estate. Full details can be provided to the purchaser.

Please see the NEWS section  of our website for initial details of the other items. These will be listed on-line as they are prepared for sale.

We would remind prospective purchasers that these wardrobes are both heavy and bulky, requiring 2 or preferably more people to move safely. They must also satisfy themselves prior to purchase that there are no restrictions preventing moving it to their intended room.Unlike the modern made smaller 4′ x 5’6″ wardrobe, earlier made wardrobes were not constructed to be easily dismantled.
