Stock ref: DS2143

1939

A superb walnut  Double Wardrobe from the Windermere, Cumbria workshop of Stanley Webb Davies, the renowned Cotswold School trained Arts and Crafts furniture maker. Stanley Webb Davies pieces are rare to the market and increasingly highly sought after, representing understated Arts and Crafts furniture at its very best, in the Cotswold School style of Gimson, Romney Green and the Barnsley’s. Every piece is totally unique, SWD was resolute in never producing exactly the same design twice. Displaying the very finest cabinet making techniques and skills combined with meticulous attention to the smallest details. Comprises two detachable storage compartments  which sit into a base plinth. Typical curved edges, exposed cogged dovetailing, wedged tennons throughout and contrasting ebonised walnut handles.

Signed and dated in the expected SWD manner, made by Ernest J Oldcorn and Frank Gregory.

Photographed in ‘as purchased’ condition, slightly faded externally but completely sound. A clean, re-oil and wax will return the exterior to its former glory, like the interior which has lost none of its original hue. We will be pleased to discuss a sale for the piece as it is or fully refurbished in our workshop.

Privately acquired  from the original owning family together with a dressing table /mirror made as part of the same commission, and later made shoe cupboard.

Size: 157.5(w) x 56(d) x 193(h)cm,  62″ (w) x 22″(d) x 76″(h)ins
