Yorkshire School Oak Refectory Coffee Table

Stock ref: DS1322

Circa 1960s

A wonderful refectory style  2’6″ length coffee table with typical shaped trestle legs joined by a pegged stretcher and extensively adzed to all visible surfaces.  The craftsman has carved  what looks to be an ivy leaf signature in high
relief  to the centre of the stretcher. Of solid construction with superb depth of colour and natural burrs visible in the table top. The only minor fault is the past loss of a natural knot in the stretcher which has been filled by a previous owner.

Whilst the piece clearly has a good age we have not seen this signature leaf carving before.  It maybe Fred Suffield’s work,  but if anyone knows the identity of the craftsman we would be happy to hear from you and attribute the piece correctly.
